About

Long ago, in the days when dragons still had their hoards of gold and Facebook hadn’t been invented to let everyone know your status updates, the role of a poet or storyteller was revered in society. In Scandinavia, a poet was called a “skald.” He was the entertainer, chronicler, and news anchor of the time. Since then, the nature of a storyteller has changed, and prose has become more popular than verse, but stories, old and new, are still valued. This page is written to explore themes of history, myth, comparative religion, contemporary events, modern media, and skaldcraft as it exists in the modern era. Some articles will deal with the days of yore and some will address more modern points of relevance, but the blog will be maintained with a respect for Vikings, storytellers, and all things epic.

The writer of this blog, Theo Kogod, is a modern Skald. He writes in those periods of “free” time where he’s not traveling to exotic lands, challenging trolls to combat, and consuming every type of story and food he can get his hands on.
